The manuka bush is native to remote parts of Tasmania and New Zealand. Manuka honey has been produced in Tasmania since the 1830s with documented evidence of the term 'Manuka' dating to 1884. Known for its antibacterial properties, the naturally occurring compound Methylglyoxal was identified in 2006 as the dominant antibacterial constituent. This product's Methylglyoxal content is measured and labeled. Appreciated for both eating quality and health benefits, it has a strong, earthy flavour.
